DICOM Support in MEDxDICOM is the widely accepted standard for digital imaging and communications in medicine. The DICOM Standard defines what is usually referred to in the medical imaging community as the DICOM image format, although the DICOM image format is only one of the many areas of interest in medical imaging which the Standard covers. Many of the fundamental and widely used operations and functionality defined in the DICOM Standard have been incorporated into MEDx in order to help MEDx users achieve interconnectivity and interoperability between MEDx and other medical imaging equipment and software, such as medical scanners of different modalities, medical image archive systems such as a PACS, and medical image display and processing workstations and software. These operations and functionality can be summarized in 4 categories as follows: VisualizationMEDx can read and display DICOM data, as a single image, as a single volume, or as a group of volumes. Multiple DICOM modalities (MR, CT, CR, PET, and NM) are supported. Data Format ConversionA single image, a single volume, or a group of volumes in MEDx can be converted to the DICOM format. This is a helpful feature especially for those MEDx users who wish to save their non-DICOM images, or the results of their MEDx analysis, in the widely accepted DICOM format, possibly for working with this data in other systems or software. Multiple DICOM modalities (MR, CT, CR) are supported. The DICOM data created by MEDx can consequently be sent by and from MEDx to an external DICOM application as described in DICOM Send below. ImportDicom Query/Retrieve. MEDx can query and retrieve images into MEDx, or into an external third party DICOM application, from a DICOM server such as a medical scanner, an archive system such as a PACS, or any software or integrated system capable of responding to DICOM query/retrieve requests. DICOM Query/Retrieve is the primary and preferred method of DICOM import into MEDx. DICOM Receive. As a second method of DICOM import, MEDx can receive DICOM images sent from a DICOM application such as a medical scanner, an archive system such as a PACS, a second MEDx session, a medical image display and processing workstation, or any software or integrated system capable of sending DICOM images. Multiple modalities are supported (MR, CT, CR, PET, and Nuclear Medicine). DICOM Receive is a critical tool especially when the DICOM Query/Retrieve capability in MEDx is not applicable due to the external DICOM application which the MEDx user would like MEDx to interact with not having the built-in functionality to respond to query/retrieve requests from MEDx. ExportDICOM Send. MEDx can send DICOM images to a DICOM application such as a second MEDx station, a medical image display workstation, a medical scanner, an archive system such as PACS, or any software or integrated system capable of receiving images via DICOM. Multiple modalities are supported (MR, CT, CR). In conclusion, MEDx can read, display and create DICOM images as well as import and export DICOM images over the network. Please take a moment to find out more about these capabilities by browsing through the various available DICOM pages for MEDX. ConformanceSee our DICOM Conformance Statement. |
