MEDx Frequently Asked Questions - Graphics

Q: How do I create and use a Region of Interest Template?

ROI Templates can be used in MEDx to measure statistics in particular regions on the image. The graphics delineating these regions can be saved to a file and loaded onto any image for measurement. The steps shown below illustrate how to create these region graphics and save them as a template to a file. The steps to reload this template file and produce statistics are also included.

  1. Load a folder and open an image/volume of interest.

  2. Open the toolbox and select a graphic tool such as the pencil, or ellipse tool

  3. Draw several regions of interest on your image/volume. If you are viewing a volume, you can draw several regions per slice. Feel free to name your graphics using the Graphic Properties dialog box. Graphics can also be grouped using the "Group Graphics" option under the Grouping menu. Before grouping, all desired graphics must be highlighted.

  4. From the toolbox, select the option "ROI Template Utilities" under the measurements menu.

  5. At this point you can generate statistics, or save the template for later use.

  6. To generate statistics:

    • Place the path and file name of your statistics file in the field labelled "Output File Name"

    • Choose from the list of statistics in the Include box. To exclude statistics, select them and push the arrow which directs them from the Include box to the Exclude box.

    • Select the OK button

    • Your statistics will now be written to the file specified

  7. To save the template to a file for later use:

    • Select the Save button

    • Choose a directory and file name for your template.

    • Select "Save"

  8. To load your ROI Template onto another image/volume:

    • Load a new image/volume

    • Select "Load" from the "ROI Template Utilities" dialog box and choose the Template file.

    • The graphics will be loaded to the same slice numbers as they were saved on.
