MEDx Frequently Asked Questions - Input/OutputQ: Converting DICOM images to Analyze or Raw formatImages downloaded from the Data Registry will most likely be in the DICOM format. If you wish to save these images in the Analyze (AVW) format or in Raw format (no header info.) do the following: There are two ways for you to save images from the Registry (which are in DICOM) format to disk space in the Analyze (AVW) format or Raw format. You can load a study directly into MEDx by using the "Open from Registry" option under the Image menu in the MEDx folder. After the study is loaded into MEDx, you can view a desired volume and use the Save Image As option to save the volume in the AVW format. The Save Image As option is found under the Image menu. Be sure to go into 3D mode from the Toolbox so that you do not save one slice from the volume. If you already have saved the DICOM files to afs space, there is a script that you can use to convert images in a series from DICOM format to AVW format. The script is called f_c and resides in the following directory: /afs/alw.nih.gov/od/MRIPS/bin You should run this script from the sub-file directory containing the images to be converted. There will be an option for you to place an Analyze header on the image if you choose to.
