Q: System and MEDx Configuration Parameters
Occasionally we will need to get information from you about how your
system is configured. This information helps us to determine whether your
MEDx configuration is optimally tuned for your computer given the tasks
you want to use MEDx for. Below is the list of system and MEDx configuration
parameters that we need to know and how to determine them.
We need to know the following information: how much memory
you have, how much swap space your system is configured with, the size
of your tile pool, and how much space is on the disk where your page file
directory is located. You may be unfamiliar with some of these items.
Fortunately, you can get most of this information from MEDx itself. The
first place to look is the "About MEDx" box which you will find under
the Help menu on the main menu box. Near the bottom of this box three
columns of numbers are listed: Process Size, Paging Space, and Swap Space.
Please send us the value of all three of these parameters. Also, under
the Setup Menu on the main menu box choose "Session Defaults". In this
dialog box click on the Tile Pool tab. Please send us the Tile Pool Size
and the Page File Directory.
It is harder to determine how much physical memory you have
from the system itself but hopefully you know this already. If not please
ask your system administrator. This is an important system parameter that
determines how some of the other configuration parameters should be set.
Lastly, please tell us what system on you running MEDx on (e.g. Sun, SGI,
etc.).
